Tantric Sex

Tantra began in India more than 6000 years ago and originated from Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism. The word tantra means weaving, and tantric sex focuses on harmonizing all senses and masculine and feminine sexual energies. Basically, it's a deeper, more intimate meditative approach to sex rather than purely a physical approach.

The sexual union between a man and a woman is considered the highest form of meditation. The practice which allows couples to achieve higher levels of intimacy and enhanced sexual pleasure has been very popular in Eastern cultures. Recently, tantric sex has become much more common in North America. Experienced practicers of this form of sex can often enjoy hours of lovemaking and a strong connection.

5 Senses

Tantric sex involves using all 5 senses to achiever greater awareness and increased sexually harmony and pleasure. Therefore, lovers are encouraged to include a wide array of sensual devices to enhance their sensitivity. For example, they may eat delicious food, light a scented candle, use a blindfold to heighten their other senses or listen to soothing music. This allows the "nadis" or energy channels that flow between a person's brain and genitals to flow freely throughout the body. This allows them to achieve a full body orgasm from all parts of their body, rather than just one area.

Touching

Erotic and light touch is encouraged in tantric sex. Lovers are encouraged to practice massaging each other, caressing them lightly or using a feather, oil or other object to stimulate their senses.

Relaxation

Practicers of tantric sex believe that both partners must remain completely relaxed in order to achieve maximum sexual fulfillment. Individuals must learn to release all negative patterns and thoughts so they can focus on the current moment. Negativity interferes with sexual pleasure and prevents lovers from remaining "in the moment."

Any activities that will help lovers relax are recommended. Couples can dance, read poetry to each other, give each other a massage or take a relaxing bath together. This will help them release their fears, anxieties and judgments which results in greater sexual pleasure. Both parties should focus on the actual experience, rather than the end result.

Breathing

Breathing is a very important aspect of tantric sex. Both partners must be completely relaxed in order to achieve maximum orgasm. Breathing helps couples relax their entire body and build pleasure slowly, rather than racing towards orgasm. It also teaches men to delay their orgasm so that it is much more enhanced when it finally occurs.

Couples can practice breathing exercises called "pranayama." They should sit cross-legged facing each other and gaze into each other's eyes while taking short but deep breaths. They should focus on harmonizing their breathing with each other for approximately 10 minutes. Rhythmic breathing will relax couples and bring them to a new level of connectedness.

The focus on sexual and emotional feelings during lovemaking can elevate a couple's lovemaking from good or great to amazing. By practicing your breathing, you can focus your attention and energy allow to spread from your heart to your head and then throughout your entire body.

Tantric sex has many benefits. Men and women can achieve a greater spiritual and emotional connection and deeper intimacy during sex. They can also achieve multiple, more heightened orgasms during lovemaking. This ancient form of lovemaking allows both partners to experience a connection with themselves, the universe and each other.
