The "Bites of Love" in Kama Sutra

In the Kama Sutra biting is an important part of making love. Bites can be given anywhere on the body at any time during a lovemaking session. But be wary of biting at the height of orgasm as this can actually cause injury due to how strong the human jaw is.

The Kama Sutra lists 8 different types of biting for use in lovemaking.

1. The Biting of a Boar

This is a bite for marking the shoulder. It's described as "Many broad rows of marks near to one another, and with red intervals."

2. The Broken Cloud

"Biting which consists of unequal risings in a circle, and which come from the space between the teeth."

3. The Hidden Bite

"The bitting that is shown only by the excessive redness of the skin that is bitten."

4. The Swollen Bite

"When the skin is pressed down on both sides, it is called the swollen bite."

5. The Point

"When a small portion of the skin is bitten with two teeth only, it is called the point."

6. The Line of Points

"When such small portions of the skin are bitten with all the teeth, it is called the line of points."

7. The Coral and the Jewel

"The biting that is done by bringing together the teeth and the lips is called the coral and the jewel. The lip is the coral, and the teeth the jewel."

8. The Line of Jewels

"When biting is done by all the teeth, it is called the line of jewels."
